The Postgraduate Master of Economics Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, State University of Malang (FEB UM) held an interesting FGD with the main speaker Dr. Lim Seng Boon from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia. The discussion material discussed was Smart City Development Sustainable-Smart-Health Nexus which was held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the FEB UM Creative Center Room.. This activity is an implementation of the international collaboration between FEB UM and UiTM Mara in discussing Climate Change in Regional Development.

          In this session Dr. Lim Seng Boon provided a comprehensive overview of the latest trends and advancements in smart city development in support of hjiau's economic program in anticipation of global climate change. He emphasized the importance of integration between sustainability, technology and health, and illustrated how these elements can be combined to create a more livable and efficient urban environment. The forum also discussed opportunities for research collaboration between UiTM and faculty at FEB UM as well as other academic and industry partners. Dr. Lim highlighted several ongoing projects and invited participants to explore new avenues for joint research initiatives, particularly in the areas of smart city infrastructure, sustainable urban planning, and technology-oriented Health integration. citizen participation.

          A large part of the FGD was dedicated to the concept of the Health-Sustainability Nexus. Dr. Lim explained how the convergence of smart technologies and sustainable practices can lead to better health outcomes and improved quality of life in urban environments. He showcased case studies and pilot projects that successfully applied these principles. Also attending the activity were S2 and S3 FEB UM students. Participants engaged in lively discussions, sharing insights and experiences related to smart city development and sustainable health solutions. The FGD provided a platform for networking and knowledge exchange, encouraging a collaborative spirit among participants. Dr. Lim outlined future directions for research and development in this area. He emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the need for innovative approaches to address the complex challenges faced by modern cities.

          According to Prof. Imam Mukhlis, S.E., M.Si who is the Vice Dean III, this FGD has opened a new perspective for our research. The potential for collaboration and the impact we can have on urban development is really interesting. Smart city development by emphasizing the importance of the role of humans as actors in development can ensure the sustainability and inclusiveness of the community in regional development. The more active the role of the community in the implementation of smart city programs can encourage the fulfillment of various needs that can be served effectively, efficiently and with quality. In the FGD activities, there was interaction between presenters and participants in relation to the development of smart cities in Malang City and smart cities in various cities in Malaysia, especially regarding budget, technology, impact and the role of government and the role of the community (yani).
