Malang, 25 February 2024 – The commitment of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), namely “Maximizing SDGs 4 and 8: Fostering Global Diversity and Creativity in Student Skills Through Education”, one of which was realized through a tourist visit to the Tempe Sanan Industrial Center. This activity also involved students from UPM with the aim of introducing local food creations of Malang..

UPM to UM’s Inbound Mobility is equipped with an educational tour to make tempeh on Wednesday, February 21 2024. The Tempe Sanan Industrial Center is located on Jalan Sunandar Priyosudarmo, Purwantoro Village, Blimbing District, Malang City. The producer’s place to visit is Tempe Rohani. Tempe Rohani itself has been established since 1988. Tempe Rohani itself not only produces tempeh, but also processes various types of food from tempeh. This business, which was founded by Lilik Suprapti, also produces various types of tempeh chips. Starting from various flavored tempeh chips and sago tempeh chips. With this consistency and innovation, Tempe Rohani was chosen as the educational tourism destination for Inbound Mobility UM and UPM.

During this visit, students from Universiti Putra Malaysia were invited to taste and also taught how to make tempeh directly. UPM students are very interested and enthusiastic about listening to the presentation from Tempe Rohani producers. They were introduced to various types of tempeh chips produced in Tempe Rohani, one of which is tempeh sago chips.

Not only that, UPM students are also taught how to fry sago tempeh chips. Many UPM students are interested in trying to fry sago tempeh chips, so the learning atmosphere is very exciting and fun. Tempeh Rohani teaches good techniques for frying chips, starting from the amount of oil used to the temperature of the stove.

After that, UPM students were also given tempeh chip testers to try. Their reaction was very enthusiastic when they tried the tempeh preparation. They like the crispy texture of chips when bitten, especially with the savory taste of spices and tempeh which pampers the tongue. As a result, they said they wanted to bring tempeh chips as a souvenir for their family and friends in Malaysia.

FEB UM hopes that the tempeh processing educational tourist visit in Sanan Village will help advance local MSMEs, especially in the FnB sector. This activity also helps encourage the popularity of local food preparations internationally.
